The endocrine system has many glands, all around the body, and they have many functions.
The hypothalamus is located in the lower center of your brain, this gland regulates ssatiety, matabolism, body tempurature, and surrpreses the release of hormones in the pituitary gland. It also releases somatstatin, a type of hormone that stops the pituitary from sending hormones.
The pituitary is in the base of the brain under the hypothalamus and is smaller than a pea. It realeases hormones and controls the endocrine system. If it doesn't produce enough or more than one hormone, it is considered a hypopituitarism. The pituitary is split into two lobes, an anterior and a posterior. The thyroid is found in the lower front part of your neck. This regulates matabolism and also supports the growth of nerves and the brain. It also maintains the body's blood pressure, heart rate, digestion, muscle tone, and the reproductive funtions. The parathroid glands are twwo pairs of small glands that are embedded into the surface of the thyroid gland, one pair on each side. It realses pararthyroid hormones that regulates calcium levels in the blood and bone matabilism. Another pair of glands are the adrenal glands, the two glands are located at the top of the kidneys. They're made of two parts, the inner part is called the adrenal medulla, the outer is the adrenal cortex. The outer part of the gland gives of a hormone called catecholamines, or also known as adrenaline. It helps the body cope with physical and emotional stress by increasing your heart rate and blood pressure. Another is the pancreas, it's found toward the bak of the abdomen and is behind your stomach and has digestive and hormonal functions. The Exocrine pancreas secrets digestive enzymes. The endocrine pancreas gives off hormones called insulin and glucagon, this regulates the sugar found in the blood. The next is the Ovaries(Female) and Testies(Male). The ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone. These two hormones affect many of the female characteristics and reproductive functions. The testes produce testosterone, which affects many of the male characteristics and sperm production.
